Time to meet the equipment

So this is the equipment needed to replace my old solution to get internet and phone.

A reminder of the old solution.  It only works with the curtains open because obviously closing the curtain disconnects the phone from the mains and the solution (a hotspot, so that is a Wi-Fi point created by your phone using your mobile phone data (5Gb limit per month)) does not work without mains plugged into the phone because you need the phone to put maximum power to receiving the mobile phone signal when you are in an area that technically you are not meant to be able to get anything in…

The old solution - the IKEA suction cup soap dish attached to the sitting room window. We got a better signal in the laundry, but it was too cold to hold a conversation in there.

And this is the start of the new solution.  It will take a while to go through it but stay with me.

The new satellite dish which as moved closer to the ridge of the roof for a better signal.

The black box needed to connect to the satellite dish. There is rather a lot of cabling going up and over the roof, down the side of the house, under the house until a suitable point was found and then holes drilled for the cable to be threaded through. First of all, it goes to the white box at the bottom (that looks like an aireal point), then the white cable goes to the black box. Blue is good, orange means its asleep...

The next box in the line. This is needed for the VOIP phone line we have. Then a cable runs to both the phone and another to the wireless router.

The wireless router which connects us to the internet.
The wireless router which connects us to the internet.  This basically gives us our broadband signal either by cable or wirelessly.  Eventually it will be on the wall, higher up so that we can hopefully get the Wi-Fi signal over in the Studio which is another building… And possibly even in the outdoor entertainment area but that may need another solution.

The fancy phone with an an answering machine, another handset, a range extender but more importantly a bluetooth connection to my mobile phone. Stuart has yet to add his phone... A job for the weekend.

The range extender for the phones which can also act as walkie talkies.

There is another device, that is the other charging station for the second Bluetooth cordless phone, but even I was losing the will to live…

All of this is needed to give us a phone line and broadband.  Even the IT Engineer has a headache. 😀

Oh and it’s  my little sister’s 30th birthday today, so
